The Mise-En-Scene of Joumbre

Costuming

For costuming, Kyler and I have implemented some general guidelines.

  1. No tight clothing
  2. Neutral tones (tan, grey, army green, etc. NO black or white)
  3. Functional clothing
  4. Boots or sneakers

The first example is a mix of high waisted tan pants and an army green jacket. A major change I would make is the shoes. They are not practical and we would like them to be brown boots.

These pants are very red and not what we want, but the monochrome look of the red on red with the black on black combo is similar to what we want with our monochrome scheme.

The sweat pants could be practical with what we are going for. The bright green obviously isn’t it, but the matching shoes also completes the look we want

This is a non example of what we want. this looks like something more Mad Max style and potentially what some people this of what they think of a dystopian outfit.

For functionality, we are considering the female character to have a fanny pack and the male character to have some kind of cargo short/ heavily pocketed pants

Hair/Makeup

For this dystopian film, we want the hair are makeup to be fairly basic. We do not think that in this situation our characters would be caring about their appearance and doing things out of functionality.

For hairstyles in the female actor, we want something pulled back from the face for optimal vision and movement. Long and loose hair may be pretty, but it can limit people and often putting it up can make things a lot easier especially outdoors.

After some trial, we have decided to go with this hairstyle. It sufficiently pulls the hair back while still looking somewhat futuristic (since we have to remember, our dystopian society is set in a different time period)

Inspiration for this hair came from, Rey from Star Wars and Jasmin from the movie Aladdin.

.

For the boys hairstyle, if they had long hair it would be pulled back as well. But currently we think that our actor will having a typical boys hair cut and we think it it suitable to be left as is.

For the makeup on both characters, little too none will be used. In every movie, tv show, and even on the news, all the actors are wearing some type of makeup, even if it is not noticeable. It is meant to make them look fresh faced and accentuated their features.

Lighting

The lighting of Joumbre will be bright, especially during such a heartwarming moment of two people meeting after such long time. The light will also be bright because it is daytime, and we will be using natural light as our light source. Of course an lighting that appears too bright or not fit with the look we want can be fixed during the editing process.

Props/Decor

Our title sequence will contain a lack of props. This is simply because of the focus we want to put on the characters. Some things that will be included are:

  • headphones
  • tree to sit in

For decor it will mostly be natural decor that is out of our hands. Since every location we are filming the main shots in are amongst trees, we cannot control how they look, but they do add to the outdoors theme we are going for. For the montage of houses and destruction, we will not stage any of the clips but they will only be included if they look like we want.
